Students in Math198 may download an (incomplete) copy of the 
vc98 compiler package  from /afs/ncsa.uiuc.edu/~gfrancis/mvc98.zip

The .zip file is ca 26meg and unpacks (into its own directories) to
about 70 meg. It does not "self-install" and I'll be happy to help 
if you have trouble installing it.

This is not the complete Visual Studio distribution. It is intended to
be used with in commandline mode using the nmake facility as similar
to unix compilation as I think to make it. It might work in the 
intended manner, but it might also mess up if you try to use it that way.

Please mail me your experience installing it and improvements on the 
minimal documentation provided.
