All problems appearing in the the vicinity of assigned problems (i.e. problems of the same kind and level of difficulty) may be on an exam. Thus, do not limit your experimentation just to the assigned problems.
Homework format is as follows. Fold pages lenghthwise with the crease on the left (not the right). On the top of the first (half) page put your name, the course (Math285E1), the date on which you are handing it in, and the list of problems solved.
Your homework should be written up in such a way that a reader who knows the subject but does not necessarily have the book handy to look at can still understand what you are doing.
Homework for Monday 30aug99 is Sec 1.3:1-10.
Homework for Friday 3sep99 is Sec 1.1:3,6,15,22.
Your information sheets must be returned by 5pm today. If you do not have one in by the end of class today, please put it into my mailbox in Room 250 Altgeld before it closes at 5pm. Do NOT slip it under any doors.

As of Sept.1, 1999 (Wed) the Math 285 tutoring rooms (162 Lincoln, 3-5pm, and 241 Altgeld, 7-9pm, open Monday through Thursday) will be staffed as shown below. Instructors should inform their students of its location and times. Students should inform their instructors if ever they do not receive reasonable assistance in the tutoring room (especially if no-one is there.) TA's should arrive promptly, stay full time, and provide me with weeily written reports as to how many students came each hour.
