Theorem: The square of the length of the hypotenuse of a
right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the legs.
As math majors at the University of Illinois, we have seen virtually every possible proof of the Pythagorean Theorem at some point or another. We are now in a class called The History of the Calculus and we were asked to complete a project on some mathematical topic we have covered so far this semester. We decided that it would be to our benefit and to the benefit of many others to compile a sort of database of Pythagorean Theorem-related material.
Have you ever wondered which proof of the Pythagorean Theorem is most effective to use if you are teaching high school students? You can search our database of website links and see what in-service high school teachers think.
Do you know which president of the United States wrote a proof of the
Pythagorean Theorem? Search our links and you can find out. On our website you
will find links to websites that provide history, proofs, uses, and animations
of the theorem. We have also provided short descriptions of each website to help
aid you in your search for information. Enjoy!
