21jan15 Dear Students of MA348-E1 and MA347-G1 Apologies to those of you who did not receive the announcement of a room change for the 1pm section sent you by the Department on 13jan15. It is possible that you are not linking your personal email with your @illinois.edu University email account. All official transactions use @illinois.edu rather than your personal email. This complies with by government (FERPA) rules. If you registered for the course after the class lists were distributed you would, of course not have received this notification. Since the Registrar does not notify the faculty of student adds and drops anymore, it is difficult to for me to maintain my class lists So, if you have registered since 12jan15, please send me an email with your name and netid, and the date you registered. I will update my records. I hope this is the only email I have to send to all students in the two classes. As soon as I set it up, I will use a Piazza Account for the class for announcements. Provided you set your email account to receive them, you will be notified by email when such an announcement is made. All communication concerning the course will occur on Piazza to assure that the answer to a question by one student becomes available to all students. Only personal issues should be discussed in private email. Be certain that the Subject Field of your email refers to the course. If your subject field has the numberal 347 or 348 in it, then my email filters will alert me. Once Piazza is set up, it will be inappropriate handle questions about the course itself by private email. As announced in class on W1 (Wednesday of week 1), prepare to answer the filecard questions embedded in the lesson itself, on paper first thing on the day the lesson is marked as due in the Syllabus linked to http://new.math.uiuc.edu. This applies to F1 (Friday of this week) for Lesson 1. Until the AD-password issues are resolved, we will have to handle the filecards differently than described in on the web. I will announce the place and time of open office hours after I have collected your weekly class schedules to optimize the time that most students can can come to them. In the meantime, use the Piazza Forum to ask all questions you have that pertain to the course. For personal question, use private email as described above. I you are in doubt which is which, then consider whether the answer to your question might be useful to other students as well. George Francis, Prof. Mathematics
